Professor Brown's research and teaching interests focus on issues of technology, science, global popular culture, and Latin American cultural identity.
Professor Brown is currently at work on Weirding Latin America, a project that explores the Weird as genre and philosophy in contemporary Latin American fiction.
He is the author of Cyborgs in Latin America (Palgrave, 2010), Test Tube Envy: Science and Power in Argentine Narrative (Bucknell UP, 2005) and editor of Latin American Science Fiction: Theory and Practice (Palgrave 2012) and Tecnoescritura: Literatura y tecnología en América Latina, a special issue of Revista Iberoamericana 73.221 (Nov-Dec, 2007). His articles on Latin American narrative and film have appeared in such journals as Comparative Literature, Hispanic Review, Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, Latin American Literary Review, Revista Canadiense de Estudios Hispánicos, and Science Fiction Studies, among others.
